Celluloid Filmmaking, Photography & Beyond
My Creative Process
My work is slow, intentional, and sometimes reactive to events and experiences during the 'making' process. The busyness of life inspires me, and ideas will often come to me based on something I've heard, seen, or experienced.
Finding Inspiration Everywhere
I find inspiration when I'm somewhere with sounds, movement, and life (not shut away in a room with only my thoughts and four walls). I need vibrancy to feel productive, and this can be found on a mountain walk or, closer to home, in putting the trolley away in the supermarket car park.
Disrupting my 'normal' routine by staying somewhere else, visiting an exhibition, listening to new music, or reading a new book will often be the motivation I need to do something with my ideas.
Forming an Idea
My process starts with notes. These could be snippets of inspiration, half-formed thoughts, or overheard names and phrases.
Everything has a story and a history. I'll talk to people I know and conduct online research to learn more about the folklore, customs, or origins associated with an idea.
When I feel I have a nugget I want to work with, I'll expand it with collaborators and peers and make sure it's something others can connect with.
